WHAT ELSE IS ON 2010

A new departure for the website in that we will now provide, via this page, a forum for non Howden Live events.
One reason for this is try and avoid the confusion with Howden Live presentations that can sometimes arise with other events at the Shire Hall.

And not necessarily live events in Howden but possibly surrounding areas too. For a very reasonable fee we will place your event on this page in a similar format to Howden Live ones.
With average visits to the site per month of over 2,000 it's a guaranteed readership!
Please ring 01430 431512 for more details.

SATURDAY JULY 31st

.......THE BLACK PEARLS....... FREE..FREE..

THE BOWMANS HOTEL HOWDEN

Saturday July 31st see's the arrival of THE BLACK PEARLS at the Bowmans Hotel in Howden.
A raucus electro - acoustic goodtime band formed and lead by Keith (Ched) Cheesman formerly guitarist with the popular Doghouse Skiffle Group and manned by a hearty crew specially hand picked, not just for their musical ability but also for their on stage presence and personality.
The Black Pearls offer something completely different in a musical entertainment scene which they see as being stifled by the usual tribute bands or bands who appear to base their act around the same generic song list played on the same instruments with the same lethargic lack of imagination and disinterest. Originally inspired by Bruce Springsteen's Seeger Sessions Band who played lively and entertaining versions of Pete Seeger songs on acoustic instruments, The Black Pearls take this idea a step further by including their own radical arrangements of songs which you would not expect to be played on acoustic instruments, for example Jimi Hendrix's Hey Joe with a Banjo as the lead instrument, The Rolling Stones The Last Time on Mandolin, The Beatles I've Just Seen A Face on Bouzouki and Bob Marley songs on an accordion all played with lively new and interesting arrangements.

The band consists of the charismatic Bernie Laverick on vocals and rhythm guitar, Paul Harrison finger picking acoustic guitar, a dynamic rhythm section of Gus Ridley on bass and Karl Smalley on drums/percussion all glued together by the Captain of the ship Ched on a myriad of instruments including banjo, mandolin, accordion, bouzouki, harmonica and slide guitar.

Such is the versatility and broad appeal of the Black Pearls live performance that on June 19th this year they were able to perform at a Country music festival in Rosedale North Yorkshire to a Stetson wearing, pistol packing audience of dedicated Country Music fans and just a few hours later on the same day to a few thousand hairy bikers at the Motorcycle Action Groups Farmyard Party at Helmsley North Yorkshire, The Black Pearls earned a rapturous response from both radically different audiences the evidence of which can be heard on The Black Pearls MySpace site. And to top all of this the gig at the Bowmans is FREE!! The fun begins around 9pm. www.myspace.com/blackpearlshull
