Following on from last years very first Howden RiBFest we are tremendously pleased to be introducing you to a second one!
A slightly changed format from last year see's concerts on Friday and Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon. All of this on Ocober 9th, 10th and 11th.
With a credit crunch crunching weekend ticket price this really is one you can't miss!
The Howden RiBFest (Rock in Blues...stick an apostrophe in somewhere and you get the idea) was born of a desire to maintain the high quality of artists presented by Howden Live and at the same time give lesser known musicians the opportunity to play in front of a larger audience.
Last years eclectic mix worked on many levels but this year we have decided to focus on R&B. Thats Rythm and Blues that means Rythm and Blues, not the suspect modern derivitive.
And what a lineup we have for you in the main venue in the Shire Hall. If an acoustic thing is more your scene we have that too on Saturday with Ian Parker and Derrin Nauendorf but also at Jay Jay's cafe bar and the White Horse and possibly other venues too, watch this space!
Individual gigs as priced but see the whole shebang for a paltry £25!

Friday October 9th: THE MARCUS MALONE BAND. £10 Support, The Nicol Band.
From Detroit, Michigan, Marcus Malone has charisma by the bucketful and he knows how to use it to its fullest effect, he blew the Howden audience away on his previous visit with a rocking blues set reminicent of Free at the height of their powers. Not a one trick pony, Malones voice moves effortlessly into areas more usually occupied by Bobby Womack or even, on occasion, James Brown. His guitar-shredding technique perfectly compliments the pure lyrical sweetness, and the Stevie Ray Vaughn-like lightning fills of stupidly talented lead guitarist Stuart Dixon. They really are a party in a box, and if there was any justice in the world, these guys would be the very definition of popular music.
The Nicol Band has been formed to play the kind of music that they love playing. From Blues to Rock and beyond. With influences such as Eric Clapton, Jimmie Hendrix and Jeff Beck, together they play music that will rock your socks off.

IAN PARKER 'Up Close and Intimate' £10
Support Derrin Nauendorf.
Over the years, Ian has predominantly toured with his four piece band, delivering a blend of introspective , rootsy rock and hi-octane blues. Now,with his current focus firmly on his acoustic driven song writing, Ian has decided that the time is right to perform in a more stripped down, intimate amnner, in order to present his back catalogue and much of his newest marerial in its 'purest form', appearing tonight with a stripped down acoustic trio featuring Steve Amadeo on double bass and Chris Eaton on slide guitar.
A songwriter genuinely literate, sometimes almost literary, Ian is an original craftsman. Expressed through a distinctive bitter-sweet vocal delivery, Ian's songs hold nothing back. His ability and willingness to share with his audience, naked honesty and genuine emotion, is what sets him apart.
He has also developed a distinctively expressive guitar style, which perhaps explains his ever-growing popularity in the blues world, but the truth is he isn't a blues artist. Roots music continues to form the foundation of his sound, but there are no boundaries in place at this point in Ians artistic journey, and the emphasis lies firmly on entertaining everyone present, not just the guitar fans.
We are also tremendously lucky to have Derrin Nauendorf on the bill as support. A headliner in his own right, a planned Australian trip fell through which left him with time to fill. Anyone who has seen him previously at the Shire Hall will know what they are in for, if not, get ready to be gob-smacked!
Derrin's journey into the music industry began around 7 years ago when he left his native Australia to attempt to make a splash in the UK and Europe. He arrived at Heathrow with one telephone number, £1200 and a mountain of energy and enthusiasm. Since arriving on European shores, Derrin has played anywhere and everywhere throughout the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Holland as well as returning to his native homeland for the occasional tour. Derrin has opened for Van Morrison and countless others and has always been a major hit whichever stage he graces.

WILKO JOHNSON. £15
Support, The Alligators + Val Marshall with Dave Holley and John Cox. Plus......percussion workshop performance.
What can we say? Lauded as one of the best guitarists this country has ever produced, founder member of the legendary Dr Feelgood, a list of song writing credits to die for, With a rythm section to dream of in the form of Blockheads Norman Watt-Roy on bass and Dylan Howe on drums.
Dynamic, mesmorising, thrilling, just add your own adjectives to the list and you would still only be part way to describing an artist who has rightly earned the title 'Legend'
THE ALLIGATORS consist of Tony underwood on guitar and vocals,Mike Ollerenshaw on lead vocals and bass and Mark Sedgwick on drums. They are definitely a band best captured in a live situation with a set consisting of some strong originals and covers by legends such as Peter Green, Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder, the Stones, as well as the great Stevie Ray Vaughan. They put so much into what they're playing that you are guaranteed to get just as much out of it yourself.
We couldn't have another RiBFest without someone playing two venues and that's exactly what Val, Dave and John will be doing. After their performance here they will be nipping off to do a set at Jay Jay's too. Two comments from Radio 2's Bob Harris probably sum up Val's acoustic rock/Americana up....." It all sounds SO good!".... and "This is REALLY nice..."
